According to initial reports, a van carrying PAOK fans from Katerini was involved in a collision with a truck. Early information indicates seven people were killed, APA reports, citing The National Herald.
Romanian outlets report that seven people died after a van collided with a truck. The van, carrying ten passengers, was traveling from Greece to France and reportedly transported PAOK supporters. The ten travelers had departed from Katerini.
The accident occurred at 13:05 on the DN6–E70 highway, one of the region’s main roads. Video footage released to the public shows that the minivan attempted to overtake another vehicle but collided with an oncoming tanker before returning to its lane. The tanker was carrying alcohol, but there was no explosion that could have caused additional casualties.
Local media report that a total of four vehicles were involved in the deadly accident: a truck, a minivan, and two passenger cars.
An eyewitness told Romanian television: “The overtaking maneuver was extremely dangerous. He realized the truck was coming and tried to return to his lane, but he collided and was pushed directly onto it. I only saw one man get out of the vehicle standing. The other victims were on the road and in the field… they were in very bad condition,” the witness said.
