An Armenian citizen accused of abusing his official position and embezzling a large amount of money belonging to someone else has been detained in Georgia, while a Ukrainian citizen has been charged in absentia, APA's local bureau reports, citing the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The investigation determined that the accused individuals had established “Kinderli Georgia” LLC, which acted as an intermediary between biological parents and surrogate mothers. The company searched for surrogate mothers and, as their representatives, signed dozens of contracts on behalf of the biological parents.
The foreigners embezzled a large amount of money from Chinese citizens on behalf of the company and, instead of using the money they received from the biological parents to pay for the surrogate mothers' medical and daily expenses, as well as for the rent of the apartment and the fees stipulated in the contract, they embezzled the money they received from the biological parents.
Investigative measures are ongoing regarding the fact. The criminal act is punishable by up to 11 years in prison.
