21 people have been detained in Türkiye as part of an investigation into illegal betting against football referees, APA reports, citing NTV.
Among those detained are 17 referees, one club president, and a former club owner.
It should be noted that some time ago, the Turkish Professional Football Disciplinary Committee (PFDK) announced its decision regarding 152 referees for participating in betting activities. It was stated that with regard to top-level referees — Zorbay Küçük, Melih Kurt, and Mertcan Tubay — it was decided to continue the investigation in accordance with Article 57 of the Football Federation’s disciplinary regulations concerning betting activities. The mentioned referees have been suspended from football competitions for periods of 8, 10, and 12 months, respectively.
Recall that 7 of the referees sent to the PFDK are high-category referees. Among them are Egemen Artun, Mehmet Ali Özer, Melih Kurt, Muhammed Selim Özbek, Seyfettin Alper Yılmaz, Yunus Dursun and Zorbay Küçük.
