He says according to document signed between BP and SOCAR on December 18, SOCAR will be able to increase the capacity of gas to be transported by South Caucasus Pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) up to 25 bcm.

“Thus, South Caucasus Pipeline can transport not only Shahdeniz gas, but also oter gases produced in Azerbaijan”, Cook said. Leading role in transportation of gas from Azerbaijan to Europe will belong to SOCAR. BP will remain as operator.

The vice-president said that approximately cost of Shahdeniz-2 project, which considers to increase the capacity of South Caucasus Pipeline by 9 bcm to 25 bcm, is $25 bln. The final investment decision on project will be passed in the second half of 2013.

In general, total cost of project which includes Shahdeniz-2, South Caucasus Pipeline’s extension and TANAp projects, as well as pipeline for transportation of gas to Europe (Nabucco West or TAP) is approximately $40 bln.

Cook said that Shahdeniz will make selection between Nabucco-West and TAP in June. The mentioned pipelines projects must make their final bids by April 1.
