U.S. State Departmentâ€™s official: If Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan agree on Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, other countries will not interfere with the project

Stein said that the Southern Corridor is one of the highest goals of the Eurasian policy of the US. The second phase of Shah Deniz project will also be an important part of the Southern Corridor. To him, recently, members of Shah Deniz approved $ 4 billion-project.

Stein noted that the Southern Corridor has other sources too, including other fields of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan: â€˜Turkmen gas can be transported through the territory of Azerbaijan by the Trans-Caspian pipelineâ€™.

Speaking on the transportation of Turkmen gas to Europe, the diplomat noted that at present the EU and Turkmenistan are under negotiation: â€˜If Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan reach an agreement on the pipeline, decide to implement this project in its territorial waters, then other countries will not have the right to vetoâ€™.

Stein named the basic terms of U.S. policy on the Southern Corridor - delivery of a certain volume of gas in a number of vulnerable countries, the possibility of extending the pipeline, as well as a balanced energy policy for Europeâ€™s energy security.
