Baku. Konul Jafarli – APA. Turkish Minister of Energy Taner Yildiz on Tuesday said Turkey’s purchase of gas from Iraq will not stop it from buying Iranian natural gas and that Turkey keeps buying gas from the Islamic Republic, APA reports quoting IRNA.

He was speaking to reporters upon his return from Iraq where he participated the First International Conference on Energy.

Pointing to his negotiations with Iraqi Kurdistan province Administration to buy their oil and gas, Yildiz said Turkey’s need for energy is ever-increasing, so it resumes its oil purchase from Iraq which had been stopped since 2007.

"Turkey is also to buy about 48-50 billion cubic meters of gas from Erbil, Kurdistan, he said.

The minister said Iraq can play an important role in meeting Turkey’s gas demands.

The Iraqi government on Monday objected to the oil and gas deal between Kurdistan Administration and Turkey, claiming that the deal must have been approved by Iraqi central government based on the country’s constitution.
