IDB power mission to arrive in Azerbaijan

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. On January 24, the Power Mission of Asian Development Bank will pay visit to Baku.

“The mission will be headed by Mr. Tianhua Luo, Senior Energy Specialist at ADB. The purpose of the visit is to review ADB funded projects in power sector. The mission also includes energy expert Joonho Hwang and lawyer Baurzhan Konysbayev”, told the representation of IDB in Baku.

The visit will last until February 8.

Note that, the ADB is currently implementing Power Transmission Enhancement Project in Azerbaijan. The total project cost is estimated at $ 240 million, of which $ 160 million fall on the ADB, $ 80 million - the share of “Azerenerji”. The loan term of 25 years will be spent on construction of a two-phase transmission line with 220 kV substations and on this line. As a result, two lines operated by “Azerenerji” for 60 years, will be replaced by new ones.

Modernization of the infrastructure will reduce losses that occur during transmission of electricity to industrial centers near Baku and the surrounding area. In general, the project will reduce the country’s need for electricity imports will contribute to optimizing hydropower and bring additional revenue through the export of natural gas and fuel oil saved in electricity production. This facility will assist the Government in the implementation of priority to energy security, development and improvement of the energy sector and programs to attract private sector investment.
