Baku - APA-Economics. Russian “Gazprom” will sell gas, refused by the Turkish national corporation Botas, to independent distributors in Turkey, deputy chairman of Gazprom Alexander Medvedev said.

In late September, the Turkish government announced that Botas will no longer purchase "Gazprom" fuel under a contract that was signed back in 1986. The contract expires on December 31 2011. In addition, Turkey directly buys Russian gas through the "Blue Stream", which runs under the Black Sea.

Speaking about the cancellation of the Turkish gas agreement with Russia, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said that this step did not affect Turkish-Russian relations: “This must be approached from a purely economic point of view. We wanted to reduce prices, they refused. Therefore, we were forced to complete the contract. We we will consider all agreements that expired. If you do not see a significant reduction, it does not extend the contract”.

Note that, during the visit of Turkish Prime Minister Rajap Tayyip Erdogan to Moscow in March this year, the talks with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on reduction of the cost of gas does not yield any results. Turkey buys from Russia 30 billion cubic meters of gas per year, which will meet 64% of the country’s gas. Of these, 14 billion cubic meters supplied by the Western Corridor and 16 billion cubic meters - on the "Blue Stream". However, given the impact of the global crisis on the Turkish economy in the past year, the Russian "Gazprom" has agreed to deliver to this country 18.01 billion cubic meters of gas.
