Today is the 31st anniversary of the massacre in the Malibeyli and Gushchular villages of Azerbaijan's Shusha region, APA reports.
On February 11, 1992, Armenian armed forces invaded and massacred the villages of Malibeyli, Ashaghi Gushchular, and Yukhari Gushchular.
Since the beginning of the Karabakh war, the people of Malibeyli and Gushchular villages, which were constantly attacked by Armenian armed forces, have put up a courageous resistance against the enemy under siege conditions.
A helicopter was the only means of communication in these villages, which were surrounded by densely populated Armenian settlements. On January 28, 1991, Armenian armed forces shot down a helicopter flying from Aghdam to Shusha, cutting off Malibayli and Gushchular villages from the surrounding areas.
After several days of blockades and attacks, the Armenian armed forces launched a large-scale offensive on the villages of Malibeyli and Gushchular on February 9, using the weapons and equipment of the 366th regiment stationed in Khankendi, as well as Armenian and Russian soldiers stationed there.
On February 11, 1992, both villages were occupied after three days of unequal battle. Villages were burned, houses, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, households, administrative buildings, cultural monuments, and farm facilities were destroyed.
As a result of the invasion, about 50 civilians were killed and captured, and hundreds of residents were injured.
The occupation of Malibeyli and Gushchular villages opened the path for Armenian terrorists to reach Khojaly.
After Malibeyli and Gushchular, the Armenian armed forces committed a massacre in Garadaghli on February 17 and genocide in Khojaly on February 26.
Note that the villages of Malibeyli and Gushchular are under the temporary control of Russian peacekeepers after the 44-day Patriotic War.
