Azerbaijan’s Ministry of National Security arrests radical Wahhabi group members, Senior Lieutenant Kamran Asadov and Farid Jabbarov
The Ministry press service said Baku-born Kamran Asadov, 29, who served for Army Unit #N as Senior Lieutenant, in collaboration with other radical group members, stole 4 submachine guns, 1 PK machinegun, 20 hand grenades and ammunition from his military unit and ran away to make them available to other group members.
Kamran Asadov and other group members came to Baku after hiding the stolen things in Isamyilli region of the country.
On the intelligence about a terror attack to embassies of some countries, the Ministry carried out a special operation to foil the group.
03.00am on October 27, secret agents carried out an operation in a house in suburban Mashtaga settlement of Baku and arrested a number of group members ad killed one who put up armed resistance. Some of the ammunition and arms were discovered at the house and some in Ismayilli where they hid them. Through an ongoing search for other radical members, two other members of the target group – Vugar Aliyev, 25, and Elshan Mammadov, 24, were arrested. They unveiled the plot and intention that the group’s target was a number of government structures and embassies of some countries, including that of the Unites States. They admitted that their plan to make a terror attach on the government structures and the US embassy failed after the operation in Mashtaga and seizure of ammunition. At 22.30, October 30, other group members- Kamran Asadov, Farid Jabbarov, Bakhtiyar Orujov attacked Lukoil filling station in Baku, fired at employees and robbed about AZN 3,000. The secret agents identified whereabouts of Kamran Asadov and Farid Jabbarov that they were hiding in a forest in Ismayilli and prepared a special plan to detain them. On November 9, secret officers handcuffed them without “leaving them time†to put up armed resistance while they were armed with submachine guns. 2 AKM submachine guns, 4 magazines and 120 cartridges were found on them. Kamran Asadov and Farid Jabbarov admitted that Bakhtiyar Orujov also participated in the attack on the filing station. They also confessed that the group planned to make a terror attack on the US embassy. The Ministry’s search for Bakhtiyar Orujov is under way. /APA/
