Abdullah Gul said that Azerbaijani and Turkish people have the same language, religion and culture. The two countries have high-level relations in all spheres.
“I feel at home. Turkey cries and feels happy along with Azerbaijan. There is no profit or enmity in friendship,” he said.
Touching on the presidential elections in Azerbaijan scheduled for 2008, Abdullah Gul said these elections are of great importance for Turkey.
“We believe democracy will deepen in Azerbaijan,” he said.
Commenting on joint projects implemented in the region by Azerbaijan and Turkey, the president said Azerbaijan’s oil got access to the world market thanks to Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline.
“Kazakhstan’s joining the project will increase the value of the project. The foundation of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line will be laid soon. Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline will play important role in the development of the region. Those who have kept away from these projects will understand their faults. Those who want truce and peace may participate in these projects,” the president said.
Speaking about Turkey-Armenia relations Abdullah Gul said that Turkey recognized Armenia’s independence in 1991 and though it has no coast in the Black Sea, provided opportunities for its admission to the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization.
“The entire world sees Armenia’s position against Turkey and Azerbaijan. We want Nagorno Karabakh conflict to be solved in the framework of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. Armenia should not have hopes for the relations with Turkey, while it deepens the happenings of 1915,” he said.
Speaker of Azerbaijani parliament Ogtay Asadov said that Turkey and Azerbaijan have identical position concerning Northern Cyprus, fight against PKK terror and the solution of Nagorno Karabakh problem.
“This position will never change,” he said. /APA/
