OSCE Secretary General: Azerbaijan plays one of the important roles in OSCE which joins 56 countries

The Secretary General said that the aim of his visit to Azerbaijan aimed at participating in OSCE internal conference and he wanted to establish relations with Azerbaijani government. Highly appreciating Azerbaijanâ€™s economic growth OSCE Secretary General expressed his confidence that this factor will influence on the development of democratic rights, human rights, civil society and national institutions.
The Secretary General noted that OSCE Office in Baku is actively operating and greeted the officeâ€™s trainings for the police, judges and media representatives.
â€œ2008 will be a very important year for Azerbaijan, as presidential elections will be held in the country. OSCE is closely cooperating with Azerbaijani government and civil society institutions for holding democratic, free and fair elections. OSCE has also friendly warned Azerbaijani government to amend the legislation on freedom of assembly,â€ he said.
Marc Perrin de Brichambaut said that he once more mentioned OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Miklos Harasztiâ€™s call on releasing imprisoned journalists while meeting with Azerbaijani officials.
â€œThe representatives of the government said that the case of each journalist should be considered separately,â€ he said. /APA/
