Energy forum starts in Lithuania today

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev is planned to make speech on “The role of GUAM countries in development of region in terms of energy”. Roundtable on regional cooperation in the field of energy will be held in the framework of the forum.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus, Polish President Lech Kaczyński, Kazakh Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sauat Mynbayev will participate in the roundtable.
Following the roundtable presidents of Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland will sign an agreement on energy cooperation.
An interstate agreement on establishing a body dealing with the implementation of joint projects is also expected to be signed.
The heads of states will hold a press conference, which will be followed by a roundtable with their participation.
Lithuanian President Valdas Adamkus will give a reception in honor of the presidents in the evening. A number of officials, as well as European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are expected to make speech at the reception.
Forum with presence of experts and representatives of energy enterprises will be held today in Vilnius. The event is organized by Lithuanian Foreign Ministry, Lithuanian Strategic Research Center and the US Hudson Institute. The main theme of the forum is “Energy security: transportation, demand and diversification”.
Representatives of the European Union, energy enterprises of the US, Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia, Black sea and Caspian region, ambassadors, experts and members of NGOs will attend the forum.
The attendees will exchange views on energy policy, new challenges, and mutual cooperation in the European Union, Central Asia, Caspian and Black sea region.
Matthew J. Bryza, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs will make speech on “Energy security of Eurasia: geopolitics and diversity of gas transportation”.
Jean-Arnold Vinois, Head of the Unit - Energy Policy and Security of Supply of European Commission Directorate-General for Energy and Transport, Bruce Jackson, head of the Project for Transitional Democracies, Zeyno Baran, Director of the Center for Eurasian Policy and a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute and other outstanding experts will make speech in the forum.
