Mr. Obering assessing opinion of American experts who visited Gabala stated that radar station in Azerbaijan has a large view.
“American system proposed for the Czech Republic is designed to have a quite narrow view, but one that is very detailed and exact, as required for tracking and targeting individual missiles,” he said.
The general urged Moscow to link its radar in Azerbaijan into the American system in Central Europe.
He said Gabala radar would be useful for missile defense system in Poland and Czech Republic as a way to alert the rest of the missile-defense system to an Iranian attack and to help focus it.
“But I do not know whether Russia will adopt this proposal,” he said.
Delegation composed of U.S, Russian and Azerbaijani experts visited Gabala radar station yesterday. The experts assessing the prospects of joint use of Gabala radar station by Russia and the US will prepare their proposals and present to their presidents. The proposals that will be prepared after the visit will be debated in 2+2 meeting of Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministers of the US and Russia. This was American experts’ first visit to Gabala radar./APA/
