Azadliq alliance organized a roundtable on Europe Union – Azerbaijan Action Plan signed between Azerbaijan and Europe Union in 2006, APA reports.
Chief of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Ali Karimli addressing the meeting said that despite the importance of the action plan for Azerbaijan, necessary measures have not been taken for its implementation.
“That’s why, a part of the society is unaware of the plan,” he said.
He expressed his dissatisfaction with the Europe Union’s activity in this direction.
Following this, Fuad Mustafayev, deputy chairman of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, drew the alliance’s proposals to the attendees’ attention.
Though the plan envisaged prospects on ten priority spheres, the alliance prepared proposals only on the 2nd priority (strengthening democracy by fair and transparent elections) and the 3rd priority (strengthening protection of human rights, fundamental freedoms and rule of law).
The alliance put forth 6 proposals on the 2nd priority sphere and 26 proposals on the 3rd priority sphere. The document proposes extension of legislative body’s authorities, improvement of local authorities and other issues.
Political scientist Rasim Musabayov, lawyers Fuad Aqayev, Adil Ismayilov, representatives of NGOs Leyla Yunus, Murad Sadraddinov, Open Society Party chairman Akif Shahbazov, Citizen and Development Party chairman Ali Aliyev and others expressed their position on the proposals. Leader of National Unity Movement Lala Shovket noted that laws don’t work in Azerbaijan and the idea of democracy is week.
Taking into consideration the proposals put forth in the event, the document will be submitted to the corresponding bodies. /APA/
