Los Angeles County Sheriff: I believe that through continued strong communication Azerbaijan will continue to be important to the USA

- Mr. Baca I know that recently, on June 2007, you visited Baku to discuss the perspective of cooperation between law enforcement forces of Los Angeles and Azerbaijan. Taking into account the fact that your office adopts a lot of new technologies in the field, can we say that you will share those experience with Azeri counterparts?
- First of all, technology is very important for the USA and particularly in the law enforcement forces. I met with a minister of emergency situations of Azerbaijan Kamaladdin Heydarov in their building and spoke to him about so called “uninterruptible communication systemâ€. It is type of communication with Fair Service, Police and Medical Services. We managed to do it very well in the USA. They have very good plan in Azerbaijan too. Another direction is a practical training for the police. If Azerbaijani side wants to come here I may host them. In Los Angeles they may learn how our police work.
- During your visit you met with president Ilham Aliyev and his top officials. What did you underline for yourself after these meetings?
- I know that your president has great plans not only about Azerbaijan but also about GUAM. I think that for the regional development Azerbaijan along with Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine are doing a lot and it is important for the USA. But I see that obviously president Aliyev is the biggest leader and most important person in the region, and I was impressed by his vision for the region. The opportunity to expand economy of Azerbaijan is vast and economy is increasing very rapidly there. In coming years, your budget will be 8-10 billion dollars. So today is very important to develop in a right direction. I saw that the president has a plan for that. Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev along with Foreign Affairs Minister Elmar Mammadyarov is working in one team to achieve the prosperity for Azerbaijan.
- You visited some other capital cities of South Caucasus region too. How Baku differs from other cities of region?
- Baku is very beautiful, important city and it has excitement in terms of history, truism. People and leadership of Azerbaijan are very impressive too. I liked very much Azerbaijani people and I am grateful to all ministers with who I met in this short period of time. I had a chance look at some historical places, parts of the country. I believe that through continued strong communication Azerbaijan will continue to be important to the USA.
4. Since 2006 Azerbaijani Consulate has been operating in Los Angeles.
- Did you manage to build effective cooperation with them?
- Consul General Elin Suleymanov has got a great job. His is first Consul General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles and as I said doing great job. My desire is to help with make a connection with the American businessmen who want to do business in Azerbaijan. So Consulate can help in this regard. I think that as Los Angeles elected officials like me and business leaders to get know Consul General and I tend to introduce him more people. /APA/
