Mazahir Panahov: Azerbaijanâ€™s Electoral Code will not be seriously amended

Mr. Panahov said that they exchanged views at the meeting in Venice Commission.
â€œVenice Commission has the right only to give recommendations. These recommendations are in line with the standards arising from the world practice,â€ he said.
Mazahir Panahov noted that there are some issues which can not be applied now.
â€œThe application of some issues is impossible now. One of them is forming elections commissions on parity basis. This is not only in the authoritiesâ€™ competence. Political organizations should reach an agreement and necessary steps should be taken basing on it. Much is to be done in this field,â€ he said.
Mazahir Panahov also said that an initial agreement was reached concerning Azerbaijanâ€™s proposal on dropping bulletins into ballot boxes without putting them into the envelops.
CEC chief also underlined that he does not want to give information about the debates beforehand.
â€œThe Electoral Code will not be amended seriously, as the present code is awell-prepared document,â€ he said. /APA/
