8th meeting of EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee starts in Baku

She said that present level and prospects of the relations between Azerbaijan and European Union, energy security, human rights, freedom of speech and media, protection of environment, democratic reforms, 2008 presidential elections, imprisoned journalists, Nagorno Karabakh conflict and other issues will be debated at the event.
“We will speak not only about energy security today. We will debate all the fields that concern us,” she said.
Head of Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation to European Union-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee Valeh Alasgarov said that they are ready to debates in any theme.
Deputy Prime Minister Abid Sharifov said that cooperation between European and Union and Azerbaijan is developing and the organization allotted €400 million to Azerbaijan since 1992 till now. He said that €100 million of it was carried out through technical assistance – TACIS line.
The delegation headed by Marie Anne Isler Béguin will have meetings with Defense Minister Safar Abiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev, Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov, speaker of parliament Ogtay Asadov and Sheikhuislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade. The visitors are also expected to meet with imprisoned journalists – Eynulla Fetullayev, MIrza Sakit, Rafig Tagi and Samir Sadagatoglu. /APA/
