He said that after the campaign starts the amount of the funds that will be spent on the process will be determined, and funds will be allotted from the state budget. The CEC chief noted that it is impossible to predict how much will be spent on the elections beforehand. Mazahir Panahov said that international observers will arrive in Azerbaijan only after the election campaign starts. Commenting on the date of the elections for vacancies in the parliament and municipalities Mazahir Panahov said that they plan to hold local re-elections at this year-end.
“We held re-elections to the parliament early in 2006 and re-elections to municipalities at the end of this year. We specified the voters’ lists from January to May this year. Now we are engaged in renewing election constituencies. On the other hand, there is nothing to worry about. I do not see any point that can damage the parliament’s activity,†he said.
Mazahir Panahov noted that CEC will continue monitoring and organize courses in line with the president’s executive order regarding action program on human rights.
“We planned to start the courses, but postponed them due to the election constituencies. The courses will start in January,†he said. /APA/
