ADP likely to support Ilham Aliyev in the elections

Some opposition and ruling parties have already started preparations for presidential elections, ADP chair Sardar Jalaloglu told the APA.
Mr.Jalaoglu underlined that they have decided to participate in the presidential elections. He added that ADP may support the single candidate of the opposition if it has one, and also discuss to run a campaign by joining a bloc:” If ruling party takes steps towards holding democratic elections ADP may support government’s candidate. So ADP will prefer national interests while supporting candidate,” said Mr.Jalaloglu.
Motherland Party leader Fazail Agamali underlined that the party will clarify this during the congress to be held in April-May. He reminded that he supported Ilham Aliyev in 2003 year presidential elections:” I assume that the party will make a decision on endorsing Ilham Aliyev’s presidential candidacy” he added.
Justice Party’s leader Ilyas Ismayilov said that his party has yet specified participation strategy in the presidential elections:” the party will make relevant decision in the conference,” he added.
Umid Party’s leader Igbal Agazade said that party has already made a decision regarding presidential elections. I.Agazade underlined that the party will attend presidential elections with its candidate. “Umid Party will put forth the candidacy of its leader.”
Great Establishment Party leader Fazil Gazanfaroglu said that his party made a decision to attend the elections with its candidate:” It has not yet been specified whether the candidate will be a party member or leader. Anyways Great Establishment Party will attend the elections without joining any blocs, unions.
Leader of United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (UAPFP) Gudrat Hasanguliyev said that this issue will be clarified in the congress of the Party to be held in April, 2008 and the participation directions of the organization in presidential elections will be defined.
The deputy chief of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) Hasan Karimov said that their decision regarding presidential elections will be defined in Azadlig alliance.
“The Party will be able to attend the elections after Election Code is amended and commissions are formed on parity principles. APFP will support candidate of Azadlig alliance in the election,” he said.
Chairman of Open Society Party (OSP) Akif Shahbazov said that his party will support their leader-candidacy of Rasul Guliyev in the elections.
The chairman of Azerbaijan National Independence Party (ANIP) Ayaz Rustamov said that his party will support their own candidacy in the election.
Leader of Vahdat Party Tahir Karimli mentioned that Political Council of his party has an official decision on supporting the policy of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in the elections.
“The Party will have a Congress after presidential elections start officially. We will probably initiate candidacy of Ilham Aliyev in the elections,” he said.
The chairman of Citizen and Development Party Ali Aliyev said that if Azadlig alliance attends the election, they will support the leader of National Union Movement Lala Shovkat or APFP chairman Ali Karimli.
Musavat Party leader Isa Gambar told in an interview to the APA last week that they will publicize their decision regarding 2008 presidential elections in autumn.
“We intend to participate in the elections at present. We do not know what decision we will make afterwards,” he said. /APA
