We are preparing for oncoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan. We want to continue cooperating with government, civil society, opposition and media and to be sure in the development of democratic institutions. Free media is the base of democracy in any country, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs Matthew Bryza said, APA reports.

“First of all, media should be free, no one should restrict its activity. Secondly, media should professionally establish its activity and should not cause scandals. Not any government should restrict freedom of expression and media,” he said.
Mr.Bryza stressed that he supported mutual conception among authority, opposition and media.
“They can not agree with one another, but they should understand one another,” he said.
Mr. Bryza said that they raised issue on the freedom of media in the meeting with Azerbaijani senior officials and they will continue it.
