Deputy Defense Minister: Azerbaijan supports public control over armed forces

“Though Armenia continues to occupy a part of Azerbaijani territories, reforms are being carried out in Azerbaijani armed forces,” Azerbaijani Deputy Defense Minister, lieutenant-general Chingiz Mammadov said in the international meeting on “Support to social welfare of servicemen and international prospects” in Baku, APA reports.
Deputy Defense Minister said that reforms are being carried out in the educational system and units of Azerbaijani armed forces.
“Transition to NATO standards yields positive results. Food and wear supply of armed forces have been improved, national personnel is being qualified,” he said.
Chingiz Mammadov underlined that he supports public control over Defense Ministry’s armed forces.
“We are studying practice of a number of European countries, as well as Baltic states on public control and experts are negotiating,” he said.
Noting that Azerbaijani armed forces are developing Deputy Minister said salaries of servicemen and civil servants and salaries according to the ranks doubled, funds allocated for servicemen’s insurance increased by 10 times and apartment compensations increased by 4.5 times.
“Buildings are being constructed in military garrisons, and it was ensured that the servicemen will get mortgage,” he said. /APA/
