Baku to host Azerbaijan- Turkmenistan negotiations on Caspian’s status

Turkmen foreign minister Rashid Meredov received Azerbaijani delegation head, deputy foreign minister Khalaf Khalafov before the meeting. The sides focused on the major aspects of the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. They emphasized that the dialogue between the presidents [Azeri and Turkmen], particularly the meeting and talks in St. Petersburg and agreements in this framework gave a strong impetus to the deepening of bilateral relations. The sides also said Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan relations have stepped to an active stage and expressed confidence on opening of Turkmenistan’s embassy in Baku soon. It was also stated that the existing cultural and humanitarian relations between the two countries serve multilateral development of the relations.
The talks between the delegations focused on the legal status of the Caspian Sea and broad exchange of views was held on aspects of division, the positions were compared. It was considered expedient to discuss specific elements of the legal status of the sea. Both sides appraised the holding of the discussions.
The next meeting is expected to take place in Baku in September this year. /APA/
