EU representative meets Azerbaijani Justice Minister

The delegation led by the European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Peter Semneby today met with Azerbaijani Justice Minister, chief of Juridical Council Fikrat Mammadov, Justice Ministry press service told the APA.
Mr.Mammadov underlined that their relations with EU have been expanded. He gave thorough information to Mr. Semneby about modernization of court system in the country, establishment of new courts, assessment of judges and the most progressive ways to elect them, large-scaled measures taken on the development of justice bodies as well as reforms in the penitentiary system, and strengthening public control in this field.
Mr. Semneby stated that European Union as well as OSCE and Council of Europe support economic development and democratic processes in Azerbaijan. They exchanged views on the expansion of cooperation in the juridical field, freedom of expression and media, responsibility of journalists and other issues. /APA/
