Ali Hasanov: Pardon Commission is considering Press Council’s appeal for pardoning journalists
# 19 July 2007 15:35 (UTC +04:00)
The government official said that unless the journalists have not appealed for pardoning, no one can guarantee that they have been reformed.
The department chief said that Press Council appealed to the Pardon Commission for releasing the journalists.
“This issue is being debated at present. The Pardon Commission will make a decision. After the President returns from short leave, he will be reported about it,” he said.
Commenting on Najaf Najafov Foundation’s statement that most of media outlets are pro-government Ali Hasanov said this division is relevant.
“What does the foundation mean under the word pro-government newspaper? If it means the media outlets founded by the parliament and other state bodies I doubt it. I am sure that these newspapers do not write slander. Or if it means all media outlets outside pro-opposition ones, I doubt this too. I think this should be made more exact. General word cannot be source of information,” he concluded. /APA/
