The report on “Combating anti-Semitism in Europe” drawn up by Mikhail Margelov on behalf of the political affairs committee was today debated at the session of Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), APA’s Europe bureau reports.
Head of Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov addressed on the theme. Touching on the importance of the topic Mr.Seyidov said anti-Semitism plays a role of indicator showing how healthy a society is, “I think we should show an example to the world on how can be lived together in a peaceful atmosphere and try to build a society that can be accepted by the whole world. Azerbaijan can be a splendid example in this context. I state with feeling of pride that we do not only live in peace in Azerbaijan. Our country with 90 percent Muslim population can be splendid example for Azerbaijanis and Jews living together,” the parliamentarian stressed.
Samad Seyidov said that as the continuation of this policy, synagogues, Jewish schools have been built in Azerbaijan, Jews and Azerbaijanis can study in the same schools unlike in other countries.
“We respect rights of all national minorities in Azerbaijan and this is the result of our common policy,” he said.
Underlining that Jews are represented in the government and parliament Samad Seyidov shared his thoughts about the tolerance in Azerbaijan.
“How could it be that it is possible in Azerbaijan, but not in other countries? It is because we have no bombs and missiles, we have values. These values create conditions for us, our country and the Council of Europe to solve these problems,” he said. /APA/
