PACE summer session starts

June session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) is starting today, COE office in Baku told the APA.
The priority issues to be debated in the session will be intercultural and interreligious dialogue and secret detentions of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Europe.
Alfred Gusenbauer, Federal Chancellor of Austria and President of European Parliament Hans-Gert Pottering will deliver speech today.
Italian Justice Minister Clemente Mastella will attend the debates on propagating international moratorium regarding COE member-states death sentence next day. Carla Del Ponte, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) will make a report on prosecuting crimes.
Mr Vuk Jeremic, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Serbia will address the plenary session on June 28 and answer questions of PACE members.
Statements by Director General of UN Food and Agriculture Organization Yak Diuf, by Mr Jean Lemierre, President of the EBRD, by head of Voice of Conscience Foundation Rabbi Arthur Shnier and by Mr Antonio Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees will be made.
On June 26, elections to the post of deputy Secretary General of Council of Europe will be held. The agenda of the June session also include anti-Semitism in Europe, agriculture and regional policy in Europe-Mediterranean zone, debate of honoring of obligations by Monaco.
On June 27, PACE President Ren van der Linden will award Human Rights Watch for assistance in investigation into secret detentions and unlawful inter-state transfer of detainees. There is no issue on Azerbaijan in the agenda of the plenary session.
PACE Monitoring Committee on Azerbaijan, Estonian MP Andres Herk told APA he will raise an issue on Azerbaijan at the session of the Monitoring Committee./APA/
