Roundtable “Civil service reforms and good governance in Azerbaijan” held

The objective of this joint celebration on the occasion of UN Public Service Day is to highlight the contribution of public service in the Azerbaijani development process.
Rector of Academy Seyfeddin Gandilov said that public service bases on new principles. He noted that it is not an easy process to carry out reforms in the filed of public service.
“Under the category of "Improving transparency, accountability and responsiveness in the Public Service", the State Oil Fund of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ), have won the 2007 UN Public Service Award. The SOFAZ is the first governmental agency that has been honoured with the UN Public Service Award among the governmental institutions of Eastern Europe and CIS countries,” he underlined.
Chairman of Commission on Public Service Issues Bahram Khalilov said that the organization was established in October 2006 and focused on efficient management.
The commission chief said that funds should be invested to organize good governance.
“Funds should be invested in human resources. This is the most useful investment. It will be of great use for Azerbaijan in future,” he said.
UN Azerbaijani representative Envera Selimovich said that UN General Assembly adopted resolution on Public Service to asses and promote the public service on March 7, 2003.
United Nations Public Service Day, as an international day to commend and to encourage exemplary public service, was celebrated for the first time on 23 June 2003 at United Nations Headquarters in New York. /APA/
