5th international Baku conference of ombudsmen starts

Commissioner for human rights of Azerbaijan Elmira Suleymanova began the conference â€œDevelopment of ombudsmenâ€™s opportunities in promotion and protection of human rightsâ€. Mr.Suleymanova underlined that the international event hosted in Baku is of great importance. She presented a report on the establishment of the ombudsman institution in Azerbaijan, measures carried out during this period, and state of human rights in the country.
Council of Europe Secretary Generalâ€™s special representative to Azerbaijan Denis Bribosia told that the subject of the conference coincides with the principles of the Council of Europe regarding human rights. He underlined if local steps taken in the direction of human rights are linked with international experience, the activity will be of great success.
Vice-president of the International Ombudsmen Institution Peter Kostelka, assistant director of UNESCOâ€™s Moscow bureau Alla Amper and some other experts took part in the event.
