1000th meeting of the Council of Europe Ministers’ Deputies in Belgrade on 22 June

The Ministers’ Deputies of the 47 member states of the Council of Europe – the organisation’s executive organ – will hold their 1000th meeting in Belgrade on 22 June in the Serbian Palace Bulevar Mihajla Pupina 2, APA’s Europe bureau reports. The meeting will start at 10am with speeches from Vuk Jeremic, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and Chairman of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers, Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, and Boris Tadic, President of the Republic of Serbia.Under the chairmanship of Ambassador S. Prica, Permanent Representative of Serbia to the Council of Europe, the Deputies will hold an exchange of views on the state of democracy in Europe and the role of the organisation. The debate will be introduced by Thomas Hammarberg, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, and the Swiss parliamentarian Andreas Gross. The Deputies are also due to adopt a declaration recalling the Council of Europe’s main lines of action.Arif Mammadov is the permanent representative of Azerbaijan to the Council of Europe. /APA/
