’’As we open this session, I would ask you to make a symbolic gesture in solidarity with the Council of Europe ’Stop Domestic Violence against Women’ campaign. As you know, the Congress has been actively involved in this series of events, not least by encouraging poster campaigns in numerous European towns with the slogan ’’Towns and regions of Europe take a stand’’, including a particularly noteworthy one here in Strasbourg. I would therefore ask you, like me, to wear one of the white ribbons on the table before you, to symbolise our commitment as local and regional elected representatives to combating this violence,’’ stated Congress President Halvdan Skard at the opening of the 14th plenary session, APAâ€™s correspondent to Strasbourg reports. /APA/
