Top-ranked Azerbaijani male players fell in FIDE chess rankings

FIDE has released the May edition of its world chess rankings, Apasport.az reports.

Seven Azerbaijani chess players are listed in the global Top 100.

Shakhriyar Mamedyarov remains the top-ranked Azerbaijani male player, despite dropping by one spot to 14th place with 2746 points. Teimour Rajabov also fell one position to 40th with 2692 points. Rauf Mammadov holds his previous rank at 69th with 2657 points.

The list is led by Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen with 2837 points.

Among women, Govhar Beydullayeva drops eight spots to 53rd with 2394 points, while Gunay Mammadzada slips four positions to 57th with 2390 points. Ulviyya Fataliyeva falls ten spots to 67th (2374), and Khanim Balajayeva climbs three spots to 82nd (2358). Gulnar Mammadova rejoins the Top 100 at 91st with 2352 points.

Chinese grandmaster Hou Yifan tops the women's rankings with 2633 points.
