After Azerbaijan regained the second independence, the first military unit took military oath at Martyrs’ Avenue on December 8, 1991 and left for the fight for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
The first commander of that military unit, Colonel Zaur Rzayev led soldiers to the military oath place.
Major-General Zaur Rzayev told APA that he and the-then military unit staff chief Nuraddin Abdullayev jointly prepared the text of the military oath in October, 1991.
“Then, some servicemen said there was no need for the military oath. We knew the military oath was so necessary for every soldier and officer. We prepared the text which was approved by the Supreme Soviet,” he added.
According to him, today is an important day for Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan has the strongest army of the region. We, me and my warriors, are looking forward to the order by the Commander-in-Chief to liberate our occupied territories,” he said.
The text of the Military Oath was approved by the-then Supreme Soviet (the present Milli Majlis) on October 9, 1991. /APA/
