The cost of restoring the Gaza Strip's healthcare system will amount to at least $7 billion, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced, APA reports.
"The total cost of rebuilding Gaza's healthcare system will be at least $7 billion," he said at a press briefing in Geneva. He noted that the organization had previously helped evacuate 41 patients and 145 accompanying persons to several countries. "However, there are still 15,000 patients requiring treatment outside Gaza, including 4,000 children," the WHO chief explained. He noted that more than 700 people died while awaiting evacuation.
According to a rapid assessment by the UN, the EU, and the World Bank, the restoration of Gaza will require approximately $70 billion. UN representatives say that not all areas will be restored.
