China and Russia have created and are expanding a “shadow fleet” of tankers to transport Russian gas to Chinese terminals despite sanctions, APA reports, citing Bloomberg.
It was noted that the fleet uses old liquefied gas tankers; the names of the vessels are changed to conceal the owners and the origin of the cargo, and they are registered under obscure company names.
According to the information, since August of this year, liquefied gas worth USD 500 million has been transported from Russia to China’s Beihai terminal via these vessels.
It is reported that this initiative helps supply China with cheap fuel while enabling Russia to continue exporting gas in large volumes.
