The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kuwait and delivered an official protest note condemning the continued attacks targeting Kuwaiti territory and civilian infrastructure, The Times Kuwait reports.
The meeting was held by Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Suleiman Al-Mashaan, who received Counselor Hamed Hamid Yaqoubi Far, the Iranian Chargé d’Affaires, and formally conveyed Kuwait’s strong objection to the ongoing attacks. During the meeting, Kuwait informed the Iranian side of its decision to reduce the number of diplomatic personnel at the Iranian Embassy and declared two members of the Iranian diplomatic mission persona non grata. The two diplomats have been instructed to leave the country within 24 hours.
The Deputy Foreign Minister stated that the measures were taken in response to the continued ballistic missile and drone attacks attributed to Iran, including strikes carried out during the early hours of Wednesday. According to the Ministry, the attacks targeted several civilian facilities and vital installations in Kuwait, among them Kuwait International Airport.
The incidents resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to dozens of civilians, while also causing material damage to critical infrastructure and diplomatic premises. Kuwait described the attacks as a flagrant violation of its sovereignty, territorial integrity, the Charter of the United Nations, principles of international law, and Security Council Resolution No. 2817.
Ambassador Al-Mashaan reiterated Kuwait’s strongest condemnation of what he described as brutal and unjustified attacks against the country. He stressed that Kuwait firmly rejects any attempt to use its territory or airspace for hostile acts against any nation and rejected what he called unfounded Iranian allegations used to justify the attacks.
The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that repeated claims lacking evidence cannot serve as justification for military actions targeting Kuwaiti territory, civilian facilities, or strategic infrastructure. He further affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty and national security and underscored the country’s right under international law to take all necessary measures to defend its territory, airspace, citizens, and residents.
Kuwait also reaffirmed its determination to confront any actions that threaten the security, stability, and territorial integrity of the State, while continuing to act in accordance with international law and its obligations under the United Nations Charter.
