The Japanese government is determined to conclude a peace treaty with Russia, despite the difficult situation in bilateral relations, said the new Prime Minister of the country, Sanae Takaichi, in her keynote speech in Parliament on the occasion of her inauguration, APA reports, citing IZVESTIYA.

"Despite the difficult situation in relations between Japan and Russia, the policy of the Japanese government is aimed at resolving the territorial issue and concluding a peace treaty," she said, quoted by the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper.

As Takaichi noted, the world community is faced with "historical changes in the balance of power" and the intensification of geopolitical rivalry. She promised to revive Japan's diplomacy, "which will flourish in the very center of the world."

Speaking about Tokyo's foreign policy, the Prime Minister drew attention to the fact that the alliance with the United States is the "cornerstone of diplomacy and policy" in the field of Japanese security. On this basis, Takaichi stressed, Japan plans to deepen "multilateral formats of security consultations."

In addition, Tokyo intends to further promote the idea of a "free and open Indo-Pacific region."
