Israeli President Isaac Herzog will continue to review Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's pardon request and intends to await recommendations from authorized Justice Ministry officials before making a decision, APA reports citing state broadcaster Kan.
According to her, Herzog's approach remained unchanged even after the prime minister, during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Jerusalem on December 7, stated that he did not intend to leave political life in exchange for a pardon. However, in an interview published earlier that day with Politico, Herzog stated that the issue of Netanyahu's pardon was a purely internal matter for Israel. He was commenting on US President Donald Trump's request for a pardon after the American leader's repeated calls for a pardon for Netanyahu.
