Türkiye has objected to the maritime jurisdiction agreement signed between Lebanon and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus (GCASC), APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesperson Öncü Keçeli issued a statement on the matter.

The statement noted that since 2003, the Greek Cypriot Administration has been signing maritime agreements with regional countries without considering the rights of Turkish Cypriots.

It was emphasized that although the new agreement lies outside the boundaries of Türkiye’s continental shelf, it is directly related to the rights of Turkish Cypriots. The statement stressed that the Greek Cypriot Administration does not represent the entire island and therefore is not authorized to sign such agreements covering all of Cyprus, calling on the international community not to support these unilateral steps.

It was further noted that the Republic of Türkiye, together with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, remains determined to protect the rights and interests of Turkish Cypriots.
