In Pakistan, blasts kill 37, injure 175

Baku-APA. Two consecutive explosions at a popular Muslim shrine close to in the Pakistan’s eastern city of Lahore have left at least 37 people dead and almost 200 injured, APA reports quoting presstv.ir website.

The blasts occurred late Thursday night at Data Durbar, which is visited by hundreds of thousands in Pakistan.

"At least 37 people were killed and 175 injured" police chief Aslam Tareen was quoted by AFP as saying.

Officials expect the death toll rise as some of those injured are critical condition, Xinhua reported.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene shortly after the blasts and shifted the injured to hospital.

"We are looking into the circumstances around how the bombers penetrated the area despite strict security," said Khusro Pervez, the commissioner of Lahore.

So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident was the deadliest bomb attack in Pakistan since May 28, when two mosques were targeted in quick succession and 90 people were killed.
