«Armenian Genocide» Allegations Not To Bring Anything Good for Community, Australian MP
The NSW Local Government Minister, Barbara Perry commented on the activities of Turkish organizations in Sydney while she was addressing to the Parliament. Appreciating the activities of Turkish community, Perry also criticized the efforts of Armenian and Assyrian communities towards erecting a "genocide" monument in Sydney.
Drawing attention on the friendly relations between Turkey and Australia, Perry stated that baseless allegations related to «Armenian and Assyrian genocides» will not bring any good for the communities living together in peace. Reminding historical relations between Turkey and Australia, Perry reminded Ataturk’s statements regarding to Anzac soldiers, "Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives… You are now living in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side here in this country of ours… You, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace, after having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."
Stressing that Turkish community in Auburn is deeply disturbed regarding to baseless genocide allegations, Perry said, "There are other Muslim communities living in Auburn besides Turks. They are all living in peace and everyone should be careful for the sake of the peace and unity." Drawing attention on the democratic and multi-cultural structure of Australia, Perry said, "Australia is a country that people who differ in language, religion and race live together. Only a few country in the world can manage to govern such multicultural communities successfully. I will go on working with Turkish community."
Perry also mentioned the success of Turkish community and praised efforts towards dialogue among religions and cultures. "Turkish community is very successful in several issues. Students who study in private and public schools are achieving successful results. And Turkish businessmen are contributing our economy by their entrepreneurial nature."
