Baku. Turbat Bagirova – APA. To mark its 50th anniversary today, UNDP hosted a meeting in New York, attended by more than 80 ministers from around the world.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in a video message to the participants, expressed gratitude to all employees of the UNDP for the efforts in improving people's living standards and welfare of those living in unfavorable conditions.
The Secretary-General stressed that the UNDP has always been at the forefront in the fight against poverty and in a short time, achieved the restoration of many countries suffering from crisis.
The ways to implement the objectives of sustainable development and the institutions’ role in fulfillment of these tasks were discussed at the meeting.
UNDP was born in 1966, as a merger of the Expanded Programme and the UN Special Fund. UNDP is the UN’s global development network, advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP is on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges.
