The U.S Department of Commerce has decided to suspend for one year the customs duties imposed by the previous President Donald Trump on Ukrainian steel, said Gina Raimondo, U.S Secretary of Commerce, APA reports citing TASS.

"Today <...> Raimondo announced that the United States is suspending tariffs on Ukrainian steel for one year," the statement said.

The ministry believes that this step "will support one of the most important industries in Ukraine," which "is of unique importance for the country's economic strength."

“Steel workers are some of the most resilient in the world, whether they live in Youngstown [a major steel center in Ohio] or Mariupol. We cannot simply admire the resilience and spirit of the Ukrainian people - we must bail out and support one of the most important sectors for the economic well-being of Ukraine. In order for steel mills to continue to be an economic lifeline for the population of Ukraine, they must be able to export their steel," Raimondo said.
