Baku – APA. With sporadic fighting continuing between Libyan security forces and rival militias, the United Nations has pulled its staff from the capital Tripoli, APA reports quoting Euronews.

Gun fire was heard on Monday as residents kept off the streets while armoured cars patrolled some areas. Two people were reported killed during yet more shelling at Tripoli’s international airport.

The UN’s move comes in the wake of some of the worst fighting seen in the capital in recent months.

On Sunday at least six people were killed and dozens injured as militias fought for control of the now closed airport.

The UN says the deteriorating situation makes it impossible for their mission to fulfill its work.

Seven people have also been killed in the eastern city of Benghazi.

Three years after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya’s weak government is unable to control militias of former rebels who are battling for political and economic control.
