Baku-APA. Somali president Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud on Thursday named Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed as the new Prime Minister for the Horn of Africa nation after weeks following the remove of outgoing premier Abdi Farah Shirdon, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The naming of the new PM comes after weeks of wrangling that ended with the Somali lawmakers voting on a confidence motion that led to the ouster of Shirdon over "incompetence."

Outgoing Prime Minister has been in office in 15 months but rifts with the president over cabinet reshuffle lead to vote of confidence at the parliament after the Prime Minister Shirdon refused a call by President Hassan for him to resign.

Ahmed, 54, studied economics in Canada and lived there for a number of years before he moved to Saudi Arabia to work with the Islamic Development Bank in Jeddah.

The new Prime Minister, a new comer in politics, is expected to name a cabinet that preserves the balance of power between various clans and communities in Somalia.

The new government will seek the confidence of the 275-member Somali parliament in the next few weeks.
