Baku-APA. A Somali member of parliament, Mohamed Faisal, is killed on Friday after a bomb planted in his vehicle exploded near the presidential place in the capital Mogadishu, state radio reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"Parliament member Mohamed Faisal died in the explosion in his vehicle as he drove passed the gate of the presidential palace," state radio Mogadishu said.

The lawmakers was rushed to hospital following the explosion but was pronounced dead on arrival. A former member of parliament who was accompanying Faisal was also injured in the blast, the radio quoted MP Sidow Abaadir as saying.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack but the radical Islamist Al-Shabaab often carries out similar attacks on government targets.

Since the Al-Qaida-linked group was ousted from most of south and central Somalia including the capital Mogadishu in 2011 such attacks have decreased, particularly assassinations of high profile target like government officials.

Somali government security forces have strengthened security in the capital with night patrols in key streets in the city.
