Baku-APA.The Somali government and UN, AU representatives in Mogadishu on Monday strongly condemned Sunday's deadly car bomb attack near a popular cafe that has left 20 dead and several others injured.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud condemned the attack as "barbaric" and blamed it on the Al-Shabaab group.
Prime Minister Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed deplored the attacks as "criminal act which took the life of innocent customers and pedestrians", and wished "a speedy recovery to the injured."
"This cowardly attack will not derail the progress made in Mogadishu and across Somalia. The security agencies will investigate and ensure that those who carried out this attack face justice," the prime minister said in a statement.
"The use of such indiscriminate tactics against the Somali people is a cruel and despicable crime," said the UN envoy to Somalia, Nicholas Kay.
"I condemn last night's appalling terrorist attack against innocent civilians in Mogadishu resulting in numerous casualties," Kay said.
Kay commended "the swift response of Somalia's security and medical staff" and called for "the perpetrators need to be brought to justice swiftly".
AU Special Representative to Somalia, Maman S. Sidikou, said he was "perturbed and saddened by the vicious and an unacceptable attack last night of unarmed civilians".
"Such acts can only unite the majority peace loving Somalis against a few crooked brainwashed individuals who have nothing to offer Somalia except death and destruction," Sidikou said.
The attack comes as Somali government forces backed by African Union peacekeeping forces continue a major offensive against Al- Qeada linked militants, and have reclaimed key towns and villages from fighters of the radical group including the main port town of Barawe south of Mogadishu.
Somali government vowed that its forces will continue the onslaught on the militant hideouts.
