Baku-APA. A Chadian soldier was killed Wednesday in an attack by Nigeria's militant Islamic sect Boko Haram in Gambaru, a town in the northeast of Nigeria. A total of 13 militants also died, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

According to a Chadian army statement, Boko Haram attacked Chadian troops stationed in Gambaru Wednesday morning, killing one Chadian soldier. "The enemy was defeated. They abandoned 13 corpses and some materials," the statement said.

Chad has deployed 2,500 troops both in Cameroon and Nigeria to help the two countries fight Boko Haram since mid January. According to official figure, 30 Chadian soldiers have been killed by Boko Haram since the deployment.

Chadian troops liberated Gambaru in the beginning of February after Boko Haram controlled it for several months.

Boko Haram is fighting to overthrow the Nigerian government and create an Islamic state.
