Event on Nagorno Karabakh conflict held in Republic of South Africa

Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. Within the framework of “Justice for Khojaly” International Awareness Campaign, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Republic of South Africa Elkhan Polukhov delivered a lecture titled “Stability in the South Caucasus within Azerbaijan-South Africa relations” for the teachers and local experts at the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Pretoria.

 

The Embassy told APA that delivering a keynote speech, dean of the faculty, professor Maxi Schoeman noted that South Africa has no enough information about Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh and this meeting was dedicated to fill this gap.

 

Ambassador Polukhov spoke about Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, Khojaly genocide, domestic and external problems faced by Azerbaijan after regaining independence and the key role of Heydar Aliyev in the elimination of difficulties.

Informing about the process of negotiations on the settlement of the conflict, the most painful and protracted conflict in the post-Soviet area, Polukhov called on the scientific circles to comment on this conflict.

Following this, the ambassador gave detailed information about the economic indicators of Azerbaijan. He underlined that Azerbaijan’s economic potential expands year by year after its independence, it established economic cooperation with several regional countries as well as with the countries in South Africa, especially with the Republic of South Africa.

At the end of the event, the guests were distributed the booklets on Azerbaijan and Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh.
