Baku-APA. The Egyptian Supreme Council for Armed Forces (SCAF) on Monday has allowed Defense Minister Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, also the army chief, to run for presidential elections, official news agency MENA and state-run Ahram website reported, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
The council unanimously decided to nominate al-Sisi and elected Sobhy Saleh, another member of the council, to replace him.
The council also accepted al-Sisi's resignation from the military's governing body.
In an earlier report, Egypt's interim President Adly Mansour had issued a decree promoting al-Sisi to the rank of field marshal, the highest military rank in Egypt
